This isn’t related to books at all, but I wanted to do a quick weekend update, because I wasn’t a sobbing wreck the entire time, just most of the time.
Yesterday I attended the first annual Macaroni and Cheese Festival hosted by Community Grief Support at the Avondale Brewery in Birmingham.
It was a rainy and dreary day, but fortunately the big rain didn’t really start until after we had sampled most of the macaroni. There were supposed to be 20 vendors, but several didn’t show (probably due to the weather). There were plenty of dogs, though!
After sampling more macaroni than I’ve ever seen in my life, we headed out, just as it started pouring rain. The line to get in was two blocks long both to the right and to the left of the entrance when we left! It was an incredibly popular event, and I wish the weather had been better. I’m glad we got there when we did, because otherwise I don’t think I would have enjoyed it as much.
We headed to Lush, my favorite guilty pleasure store, after leaving downtown. I ended up buying the Pearl massage bar and a tin to keep it in. Best $18 I’ve spent so far. (Hey, self-care is a big thing. And you only get one skin, so you should take care of it.) The bar smells incredible, and even though I’m not using it the way Lush recommends, I still find it makes my skin feel AMAZING. Plus, the smell will almost make you faint because it’s so great. Mmm.
After Lush, we were supposed to make just a quick trip to Lowe’s, but I ended up dropping another $17 on two plants and two flower pots. I got a purple passion plant and a white Anne plant, and bought two plastic black pots that I spray painted a gold color when I got home. I’m going to be using them as therapy. After all, if I can keep the plant alive, I can keep myself alive. I hope. The pots are so gorgeous under their new coats of paint.
After we got home, my mom & I finally frames the picture I got back at Kami-con in January. I don’t know where I’m going to put it yet. But I’m excited. Because it’s such an odd size, I had to find some paper to put behind it. (I think I chose a good color!)
Today started out rough but ended up all right. I worked, as usual, and encountered some pretty big jerks, including one guy who attempted to make me smile because “At least you’re not in the hospital, like my wife!” when his “jokes” (and I use that term very, very loosely) didn’t make me smile.
My mom and sister came over for dinner (Aldi cheese pizza), and my sister played with my hamster. She loved Eowyn. I’m wondering if I should give her to her. I just don’t play with her like I probably should, because I’m so busy. Plus, she reminds me big-time of Tony, and it’s becoming hard to look at her without remembering how much Tony loved her.
Sarah brought me my birthday present. It’s a beautiful tea set that she found at our local junk store, J&J Junk. It’s in absolutely perfect condition, with not a scratch or a chip anywhere on the set. I took a picture (and lovingly edited it with my Snapseed app before posting it to Instagram), placing it on my living room bookshelf/TV stand.
Good night & sorry this isn’t about any aspect of books whatsoever. I just can’t keep my eyes open and the app is not good for editing things the way I want them to be. I hope your day has gone fantastic, and that your week ahead will be even more enjoyable.
