I found this book tag over at Thrice Read, and now that I’ve run through my backstock of book tag posts, I figured this would be a great one! I’ve got a lot of things going on in my life right now, so I’m trying to get back on track as soon as possible while still maintaining this blog, so here we go.
HOW MANY BOOKS DO YOU USUALLY READ AT ONCE?
It depends. During school, I’ll usually read two or more at once, my personal book and then the book(s) that have been assigned for class. At one point, I was reading Ulysses, Caliban’s War, some Alice Munro book, and some Renaissance drama, making three school books and one personal book. I long for the day when I have the luxury of reading only one book at a time.
Sometimes, though, I’ll get bored with one book and switch to another halfway through, and then switch back and forth when I get bored. It’s a curse.
IF YOU’RE READING MORE THAN ONE BOOK AT A TIME, HOW DO YOU DECIDE WHEN TO SWITCH BOOKS?
I always make sure the one that is due first is read first, if I’m reading a school book alongside a personal book. Other than that, I switch whenever one gets too boring for me to continue and I need a break.
DO YOU EVER SWITCH BOOKMARKS WHILE YOU’RE PARTWAY THROUGH A BOOK?
I sometimes don’t use bookmarks, but if I take a book to work with me, I just use my timeclock slips. Those stay in the book until I’ve finished for the most part. Most of the time, I can’t imagine switching bookmarks.
WHERE DO YOU KEEP THE BOOK(S) YOU’RE CURRENTLY READING?
Where am I not keeping them? I’ve got them in my backpack, in my car, on my nightstand, on the green couch in the living room, on my side of the kitchen table… It’s a disaster, really, and I kinda wish I lived alone so I could stack everything EVERYWHERE without worrying about hurting others if they tripped over a book…
WHAT TIME OF DAY DO YOU SPEND THE MOST TIME READING?
If I’m able to read at all in a day, it’s mostly before bed. I do get to read on my break on weekends, which is about 9:30 in the morning. Or I’m hurriedly rushing to finish a book right before I’m supposed to go to class and talk about it… It’s really any time.
HOW LONG DO YOU TYPICALLY READ IN ONE SITTING?
I wish I could read for long periods of time, but now it’s usually about 20 minutes (the length of my break after I finish eating and socializing). If I do get to read on my own, I’ve found that my attention span has started to wander (which sucks) and I can get through about thirty minutes before I have to take a break, unless it’s a phenomenal book. Then it could be hours on end.
DO YOU READ HARDBACKS WITH THE DUST JACKET ON OR OFF?
I take them off because I’m scared of damaging them. I put them in a safe place (usually on top of the bookshelf) and replace them when I’m done reading.
WHAT POSITION DO YOU MAINLY USE TO READ?
I try to lay down to read, but then my arms fall asleep (it’s hard, okay?) and I usually end up sitting up in my bed or on the fluffy couch downstairs.
DO YOU TAKE THE BOOK YOU’RE CURRENTLY READING WITH YOU EVERYWHERE YOU GO?
I try to. If I take a book to work, I make sure I can fit it into my lunchbox. If I can’t, I find my Kindle and work my next ARC book. When I was younger, I would literally take a book wherever we went. I didn’t used to get carsick while reading, so I would read whenever mom took us out on errands. If she let me sit in the buggy and read while we were at the grocery store, that was even better!
HOW OFTEN DO YOU UPDATE YOUR GOODREADS PROGRESS ON THE BOOK YOU’RE CURRENTLY READING?
I mean, I’ve got a GoodReads, but I rarely ever use it except for contests. I’ll try my best to update it, but sometimes it’ll be ages before I remember I put a book on there, or I read a book so fast that I don’t get to hit the update button before I’ve already finished the book. I’m just a terrible GoodReads person in general, I guess.
So there you have it! My currently-reading tag. I honestly wasn’t expecting questions like this when I first saw the title of the tag, but they turned out to be much more interesting than I thought it would be.
What are your reading habits? Can you relate to any of mine? Am I monster for not using bookmarks? You decide!
And as always, keep reading.
