We are now one week into 2018. I, unfortunately, have not made much forward progress on this blog like I’d hoped, and I also have not made any forward progress on my thesis.
Why? I have been horribly, horrifically sick for the past two weeks.
I went to the Urgent Care clinic on December 26, was there for nearly 6 hours, and was diagnosed with a severe sinus infection. I took December 27 off of work, and then went back. I managed to stay out of the window, and ended up feeling a bit better, but unfortunately, I got stuck right back in that window this week (with the windchill as low as 8ºF, which is SUPER COLD for Alabama), and I am currently battling a ferocious hacking cough (I swear, if I don’t get killer abs from this cough, I’m suing) and my sinuses still aren’t clear, despite the fact that I have finished all of my antibiotics and steroids. I’m pretty much living on Ibuprofen, Robitussin, and DayQuil/NyQuil right now.
So that’s where I am right now. I feel really bad for Steven, because we’ve been dating for two weeks now and I’ve been so sick the entire time. We had a date night Saturday, during which I was supposed to cook dinner and dessert for us, but he ended up doing the majority of it because I was running a 103º fever the entire time. I swear, I don’t know how I ended up with this man, but I am so lucky to have him in my life. The fever came back briefly yesterday, but hasn’t reappeared today so I am cautiously optimistic.
My Healthy Meal Prep Cookbook arrived from Amazon, so I am looking forward to looking over it in the coming weeks and planning out meals for me to make ahead of time and have all week. This year I want to focus on eating much better than I have been. I don’t eat as well as I should because I’m in college and I’m spending a ridiculous amount of money on insurance/rent/bills. (Trust me when I say I’ve attempted to get everything as low as I possibly can.) Food budgeting is a bit iffy for me. I’m hoping with this cookbook, I can get everything up and running smoothly.
My room is clean (my downstairs is not…yet…), so I’m starting off the new year on the right foot that way, at least. I just have a giant bag of trash to haul out to the cans when I get up the strength to do heavy lifting again. I have never been sick for this long, y’all, and it’s absolutely draining.
As far as the thesis, I had to request an extension from my professor. I sent her the email but have not yet checked my email to see what she said in response. I have been so messed up on all sorts of cold medicine that I can’t think straight enough to write anything. I gave today as my final deadline to get everything in to her, so here’s hoping that it’ll actually happen…
I have also ordered all of the books for my FINAL CLASS OF MY GRADUATE CAREER. ENG 590: Kurt Vonnegut. I have never read anything by Vonnegut, so I am both eager and anxious about this class. It’s with the dean of the department, that I know is relatively easy-going, but I am already stressing over the fact that if I don’t understand these books and don’t get an A in the class I blow my 4.0. Here’s hoping everything goes smoothly, okay? (I’ll have more of a preview of this class for you later on, like I did with my Jane Austen class last fall.)
Can you believe we’re already a week into the new year? How are your resolutions going? Let me know what you’ve been up to!
And as always, keep reading.
