The Anything but Books Tag

It’s been about eight months since I started this blog, and I feel as if there’s a lot about me that the world still doesn’t know. That’s why I picked up this tag. I saw it on Book Reviews for Bookish People months and months ago, and have had that tab open in my browser for the same amount of time, but never got around to actually writing it. This is my attempt to set things straight, and for my readers to learn a little bit more about me. This tag was originally created by Reader Rot.

Without further ado, let’s take a look at this tag:

Name a Cartoon You Love

This is really hard. I absolutely love Gravity Falls, and I love Rick & Morty, and I love pretty much all of the old Nick and Disney and Cartoon Network shows.

What is Your Favorite Song Right Now?

Okay, so back in July, I went to a live showing of Welcome to Night Vale, one of my favorite podcasts (my other favorite podcast being the Birmingham Barons X-Wing Podcast, hosted by my boyfriend and two other X-Wing friends). The musical guest was Eliza Rickman. I bought both of her CDs and even donated to her Kickstarter for a music video for her song “Pretty Little Head.” That’s my favorite song right now.

What could you do for hours that isn’t reading?

Video games. Video games, pure and simple. I have a Wii U, a 3DS XL, and an XBox One. I’ve also got a Steam account – miraofmysidia, so add me! I love getting lost in the video game worlds. I’m a huge fan of Animal Crossing (I even have the mobile app!), and it helped me a lot during my depressive episodes. Right now, I need to get back into Breath of the Wild, because I haven’t finished it yet. (Depressive episode back at the end of summer due to my breakup really messed me up.) But video games are always the answer to this one. I love them. They’re the reason I am the nerd I am today.

What’s something you love to do that your followers would be surprised by?

Hm. I’m not sure about that. I just mentioned the video game thing, and I think that’s pretty much a big part of what I haven’t really gone into on this blog in detail. Y’all know I love to cook and bake, because I do the recipe reviews every single Wednesday.

Maybe hiking? But I did post that bit about Cheaha State Park back in November, and I posted a bit about hiking back in July, too.

Maybe the fact that I love shopping. I love going out to the mall and trying on clothes, figuring out what looks good on me and what doesn’t. I love buying pretty dresses, and I’ve got a severe addiction to graphic t-shirts. (Honestly, though, I need to do a thorough clean out of my closet because it’s a mess!) Of course, Barnes & Noble is one of my favorite stores, along with Lush.

What is your favorite unnecessarily specific thing that you like to learn about?

When I was younger, I had a deep obsession with reading everything I could about the Holocaust. I just couldn’t understand it, and wanted to learn everything about it. That led to a general obsession with World War II.

A few years ago, my general specific obsession was the Tudor line in England. I read Elizabeth I by Margaret George, and then Henry VIII and Mary, Queen of Scots by the same author, and became more than a little obsessed with reading about the Tudor line.

Right now, though? I don’t know if I’ve got anything specific I like to learn about. I’ve got a deep love for biographies, though. I bought two new ones just the other day at B&N.

What’s something unusual that you know how to do?

Dunno how unusual it is, but I can build a really good campfire. I used to be the one in charge of building the fire whenever we made s’mores at my grandma’s house in the summer.

Now, though? I think I’m very good at assembling furniture. Again, I doubt that’s very unusual, but I’ve never had a problem with assembling anything. I follow the directions, hammer it all together, and drag it to where it needs to be. No problems at all.

Did you make something in the last year, and if so, can you show it?

I am not crafty in the slightest. I want to learn how to knit, and I bought a really pretty skein of yarn to make a scarf or something, but right now I’m still practicing with a really low quality yarn ball so I don’t mess up my pretty yarn. I think I’m going to need a lot more time on this, though. YouTube, here we come!

What is your most recent personal project?

Aside from the aforementioned scarf, and aside from the novel I’m working on to turn in as my thesis, my most recent personal project is getting my life together.

Let me explain. When I got dumped this past summer, it took everything in my power to get out of bed in the morning. Some days, I almost didn’t make it. My room and my bathroom suffered in terms of how dirty they got. I didn’t see the point in cleaning anything. But now I’m finally on the upswing. Everything is going great in my life again, but my room is still a disaster zone. Plus, I only have four months before I’m supposed to pack everything up and move to another apartment. This is going to be a lot of work.

Tell us something that you think about often

How much I hate my job and wish that I could find something different. I hate my job with every single fiber of my being, and I want more than anything to quit, but I can’t afford to quit. I can’t get a full-time job anywhere until I graduate, and I can’t afford to quit my part-time job because there’s no way my on-campus tutoring will cover my bills. I keep myself up at night thinking of ways to get another job, I wake up crying when the alarm goes off because I hate my job so much. It’s such a mess. Sorry. Small rant.

Give us something that is your favorite but oddly specific

Double-stacked bookshelves. Ones that you have to physically search through to find what you’re looking for. I have one bookshelf in my apartment, and it is fully stacked from top to bottom and then double stacked half way. I have so many books, and I don’t want to get rid of any of them, but I need another bookshelf.

Say the first thing that pops into your head

How am I going to make rent this month??

So there you have it! A few random questions that will let you get to know me a tiny bit better. Hope this didn’t interrupt your scrolling too much! Have a great day.

And as always, keep reading.
