One-Word Prompt: Astral

Do you ever get that feeling where you can feel your soul disconnect from your body and you ascend to that distant astral plane of the universe where you are able to scream for an eternity without anybody hearing you, and then your soul floats itself down and you re-enter your body so you can put your retail smile back on and continue taking a customer’s order?

I get that feeling a lot.

The worst part of that feeling is where you do your internal screaming, and force your soul back into your body and off of the astral plane, only for it to rocket back up there after the very next sentence the person in front of your speaks.

The worst part is, you can’t control it.

This is something you have no control over. Someone else has complete control over you, but while you can choose how you respond to things, there will always be those moments where you can feel yourself physically disconnecting yourself from whatever is inside of you and you know that you are one moment away from screaming something out loud.

But you don’t.

You bottle it up deep inside, whether it be with rage, sorrow, grief, or lunacy, and you hold on to it until the pressure builds up and proves to be too much for your human body to handle. That is when you snap and something goes wrong, and you end up being immortalized in a viral video on the internet with a hashtag along the lines of #employeegonemad.

Don’t become immortalized in a hashtag.

Today’s One Word Prompt comes from the February 24, 2018 edition of The Daily Prompt, but I had already posted something on 2/24 and didn’t want to make a second post in the same day.

Do you ever feel this visceral disconnect between your body and your soul? Let me know in the comments!

And as always, keep reading.
