All right. I know I’ve been MIA for a few weeks now. (Except for that scheduled post from Wednesday, which honestly surprised me when I got a notification from WordPress that my scheduled post had been published. I’d forgotten all about it.) However, I’m back, and I’ve got a few exciting announcements!
FIRST AND FOREMOST, I SUCCESSFULLY DEFENDED MY THESIS AND WILL BE GRADUATING ON DECEMBER 7!
I really should have written an entire blog post about it the night of the defense, and I completely planned to, but time got away from me and then suddenly I was in LA (wait, what? Yeah, that’s coming up, too) and was too busy doing other things. I’m planning on doing a whole blog post soon, though, but in the meantime, know that I did pass and it wasn’t nearly as scary as I thought it was going to be!
SECOND, I went and visited Los Angeles for an X-Wing Tournament!
It was my first time EVER being on the west coast of the US, and I got to touch the Pacific Ocean and everything. I went 3-3 in the tournament (I’ll have to write a full write-up later), but it was wonderful. The weather was perfect the entire time, and while I wasn’t able to find a piece of local art to add to my art wall, I know we’ll be going back next year so I’ll have some time to do that then. (I did get very sunburned, though, and it was my own fault.)
Third, I’m going to be seeing a red panda up close next week!
I was supposed to go this Sunday with a few friends who are coming in from Atlanta, but unfortunately Steven & I didn’t buy our tickets in time. We were able to get tickets for November 18, though, so I guess it’s kinda like an early birthday present for Steven (his birthday is November 19).
I’ve also finally started reading again. Since I’ve gotten my entire thesis list out of the way, and since I no longer have any obligations aside from my 8-5 workday Monday – Friday, I’ve finally been able to sit down and read. I read The Rules of Magic by Alice Hoffman while on the trip, and I’m working my way through A Darker Shade of Magic by VE Schwab right now. I’ve got Practical Magic by Alice Hoffman on order, and it should be in by the end of the day. It feels so good just to sit down and read what I want to read, without anyone telling me what I should be reading or should be doing.
I feel a bit bad for taking such a long and unannounced break from my blog, but I remember reading a blog post a few weeks (months?) ago that said we shouldn’t feel like we have to apologize for life getting in the way. Blogging isn’t my life. It’s fun, yes, and I love to do it, but when it feels like it’s pressuring me to do things on a strict schedule, it’s not quite that fun any more. I’m still going to attempt to participate in the weekly things that I already participate in, but I’m not going to beat myself up any more if I don’t get to do everything I said I would.
Anyway, I’m back, and I’m going to try and be better about writing more often, but no promises. I usually try to write during my downtime at work and that’s been not that much lately, mostly because we’re approaching the end of the year and that’s the busiest time (because we want to collect everyone’s money, of course).
Thanks for continuing to read, and as always, keep reading.
