Top 5 Books On My Current TBR

Welcome back to Top 5 Tuesday! I can’t remember the last time I participated in one of these — was it way back in July? Who knows! This week’s theme is “Top 5 Books on my TBR,” which, if we’re being honest, has a whole lot more than just five books on it.

T5T is hosted by Shannah @ Bionic Book Worm.

The Bear and the Nightingale by Katherine Arden

The Bear and the Nightingale: A Novel (Winternight Trilogy Book 1) by [Arden, Katherine]I received this book as a present last Christmas and I still haven’t opened it! I guess I’m waiting on Book 3 to come out in paperback so I can complete my collection without having half the series in paperback and the last book in hardcover. But as I was searching Amazon for this book, I found out that the third book is out in paperback as of October 1 of this year, so I guess I no longer have an excuse as to why I’m putting this book off! Maybe I’m just frightened that I won’t like it as much once I start it? Who knows!

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone by JK Rowling (Illustrated Edition)

Does it count if it’s the illustrated edition? I bought this for a friend for her birthday several years ago, but I haven’t collected them myself. I’m setting a goal that once I’m through with the Wheel of Time series (only nine books left!), I’m going to re-read the Harry Potter series. It’s been so long since I’ve read them, and I’m not 100% sure if I’ve read them all the way through since the first time. I feel like it’s just about that time again, and I’m uncertain if I want to buy the Illustrated Editions as they come out (well, after catching up with the four that are already released, oops) or if I just want to re-read through the hardbacks that I already own. Time will tell, I guess.

Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens

Where the Crawdads Sing by [Owens, Delia]We actually got to meet Delia Owens a few weeks ago! She came through town on her Crawdads book tour, and tickets were only $30 (you only had to buy one if you were going to go up as a group, so that’s what we did). I hadn’t read the book (and I was the person in the audience who, during question time, did say, “Hi, I’m the heathen that hasn’t read this book yet, but I’ve loved all of your nonfiction works”), but I’m really excited to do so now. We even got her to sign the nonfiction books that Steven already owned! It was fun seeing the look on her face when she realized it wasn’t Crawdads that came across the table in front of her!  She was a really awesome person, and I’m so glad I took a chance and got to meet her.

Happy Like This by Ashley Wurzbacher

So I might be cheating with this one — this is a short story collection published by my thesis adviser. She’s even been on a book tour this fall with the book, which I think is pretty neat. I don’t own the book yet (she was supposed to do a book signing by my house last weekend, but the books didn’t come in on time), so I guess I’ll have to pick it up at some point! Hopefully she comes back around and does a book signing near here. It would be so neat to have something that another one of my professors has published. (And yes, I’ve had several professors publish books and I’ve tried to purchase each of them as they’ve come out!)

Binging With Babish by Andrew Rea

Do cookbooks count? I’ve been a huge fan of Babish ever since my boyfriend introduced me to his videos, and when I heard he was coming out with a cookbook (which I have since learned is actually his second cookbook), I knew I had to preorder it. It’s already come in, and while I’ve glanced through it, I want to sit down and actually read through it. In addition to the recipes, he has a person story in front of each entry. I’ve already found several recipes that I want to try, and I will definitely be reporting on how good they are in future Recipe Wednesdays on the blog.

That wasn’t as hard as I thought! I am a little rusty at figuring out what books to put on a list, but I think this is a solid reading list for when I finally finish Wheel of Time.

Do cookbooks count? Is it cheating if I promote my professor’s book? Let me know in the comments!

And as always, keep reading.

      1. That’s hilarious, Lauren. 😂 I’d say any books you’ve had that long and still haven’t read I’m guessing you’ll probably not going to read. Sell them on ebay and buy new ones 😘

    1. Everyone has told me this so far and I still haven’t been able to get around to reading it! I bought it for my boyfriend for Valentine’s (since he loves her other books), but he hasn’t read it either. Now that we have two copies, I hope to get around to it soon!
