To the Love of My Life…

So even though I wrote that whole post last week about how I’m going to start posting more often (trying to stick with my original “set” of posts that I was doing weekly), and then I went on vacation and that just kinda ruined everything.

However, it was the most amazing vacation. We went back to Asheville, which, if you can remember all the way back to last August, was where Steven took me for my 24th birthday. We knew we wanted to go back this year, but we didn’t want to go back when it was like 100 degrees outside, so we just kept pushing the date back further and further until we ended up going the first week in November.

We’d also been talking engagement/wedding, and I knew that I had a good chance of something happening during the vacation, so I went ahead and did my nails (with this set of press-ons; I’ve had them on for about a week now and they’re not even beginning to unstick!). Hey, better safe than sorry, right? (Steven told me after he proposed that he knew I knew when he saw me doing my nails. But he also knew I probably had a good idea it was going to happen.)

We got to Asheville on Wednesday night, and got up at 5 am on Thursday morning to make it to an overlook in the Blue Ridge Parkway by 6:30 to make sure we catch the sunrise at 6:58. Steven brought all his camera equipment, and he pretended like he was just there to catch the sunrise. Until, of course, he set it to auto-capture and walked me up to look out over the ridge. And, at 6:58 (he checked his watch!), he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him.

I actually couldn’t focus too well because I was crying (you can probably tell in the picture), but it was absolutely the best day of my life. We hugged, we kissed, I cried. There was one other person at the overlook (he apologized for being there, actually — we were just glad that there was only one stranger there instead of multiple!), and he congratulated us. We headed back down the mountain and called family as we went, and then spent the rest of the day exploring Biltmore.

I took so many pictures of food and I spent so much money on art, but November 7, 2019 will stick out in my mind because it’s the day that the love of my life asked me to marry him. I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with him.

We’ll return to our regularly-scheduled posting tomorrow, and as always, keep reading.
