I found this tag on Sorry, I’m Booked, but no matter how many tags I followed it back, none of those people tagged the original creator! If you know who originally created this tag, please let me know in the comments, because I’d love to link back to the original post!
Do you have a favorite bookshop?
Currently, it’s Bookshop.org, because they support small bookshops! If I lived closer to Texas, it would be Nowhere Bookshop (which is run by my favorite author/blogger, Jenny Lawson, and hasn’t been able to officially open its doors yet due to COVID, but they run a monthly book club if you want to join up and help support them!).
We don’t really have indie bookshops around here, but there’s one called Malaprops in Asheville, North Carolina (where we got engaged and where we spent our honeymoon!) that is absolutely perfect. We unfortunately couldn’t visit it on our honeymoon because it was closed to everyone except North Carolina residents and you had to make an appointment, and we’re not NC residents so we missed out.
Do you pre-order books?
Absolutely. Right now I have two books preordered: The Last Graduate (the second book in the Scholomance series) and Cyclopedia Exotica, both from BookShop. I usually preorder the second book in a series if I absolutely loved the first book, or if it’s a book by an author I really love. I technically have Broken by Jenny Lawson pre-ordered, because it’s going to be April’s Fantastic Stranglings Book Club book.
I don’t know if I would pre-order a book that I know nothing about. I’m not big on taking chances with money at this point in time!
Do you have a monthly buying limit?
I may buy one or two Kindle books a month, but for the most part I don’t have a monthly buying limit. I’m subscribed to Fantastic Stranglings, which is $30/month for the book club, and it’s the only subscription I kept going during COVID. (Gotta support small businesses!) So I don’t know if I’ve got a set budget about that.
I got a Kindle Fire last year from my mother-in-law (who buys them in bulk on Amazon Prime Day and hands them out as gifts over the year), so I’ve been using Overdrive a lot more. I’ve got very little space in my small apartment for physical books at this time (thanks to my husband bringing in his hundreds of books with him, ha), so I’m focusing on the digital for now. And library books save money, even if you have to wait for them to come in sometimes!
How big is your wish list?
Not super big at the moment, if we’re not counting pre-orders. Right now, I’ve got the following books on hold at the library:
- Ready Player Two
- A Promised Land by Barack Obama
- The Once and Future Witches by Alix E Harrow
- Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo
- The House in the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune
- Throne of Glass by Sarah J Maas
- The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by VE Schwab
- The Wife Upstairs by Rachel Hawkins
And the following books as recommendations for my library to buy (because they haven’t been released yet!):
- The Lost Apothecary by Sarah Penner
- Lore by Alexandra Bracken
- The Charmed Wife by Olga Grushin
- The Great Circle by Maggie Shipstead
I guess you could consider this my wish list, since they’re the only books I am actively looking to obtain.
What three books from your wish list do you wish to own right now?
I really want The Wife Upstairs (I’m number 13 on 1 copy, estimates 6 months before I get it) and The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue (I’m number 164 on 6 copies, estimates around 8 months or longer lol).
And there we go! An anonymous bookaholic’s book tag, just…not so anonymous, because I’m shouting it to the internet. Do any of these resonate with you? Let me know in the comments!
And as always, keep reading.
