July Wrap-Up

I can’t believe it’s August already! August is my birthday month (ten days to go!), and it’s hotter than it has any right to be.

I think that July was probably the most disappointing month of them all in terms of personal goals — all I did was play X-Wing.

I only read one (1) book during the month of July: Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir. (Which, I’m happy to report, is way better than Artemis, Weir’s last book.) I know, I know – I’ve gone and failed the book blog entirely. I’m in a weird sort of slump. It’s not that I don’t have anything to read (I have so many!), but I guess it’s the pressure of “I have to return this book to the library in two days and I haven’t read it yet!” that actually gets me reading. (I read Project Hail Mary because of this, and I started/finished Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo today because of the same reason. Oops.)

I worked on only one cross stitch pattern this month: the Dogs of Disney Stitch-A-Long that I’m a part of on Facebook. Although I made it to Zero (three dogs ago at this point) and I haven’t worked on anything in almost two weeks. Oops. I really should be catching up. Although I did finish the Link to the Past cross stitch, so I guess that counts for something!

I didn’t work out at all this month, except for a few days right at the very beginning. I really need to get back into the habit.

I spent way more money on face glitter than a rational person should have (I now own 18 different colors, oops), and I bought some really puffy tulle skirts. I’m going to wear the pink one on my birthday, and it requires me to put a petticoat under it (my wedding petticoat, to be exact – it needs something stiffer than what my cosplay petticoat can provide!) in order to make it look full and perfect. So I guess I’m spending money rationally?

I participated in the Lone Star Open in Dallas, Texas – the very first in-person major X-Wing event since February 2020. Not a single person got sick (as far as has been reported), and I had the best run that I’ve ever had at an event, because I made Day 2! (I of course flamed out the first match, but oh well. I’m just glad I made it!) It was a 10 hour road trip but we had five people so we were able to break it up pretty well. (I even had my TikTok about this event rack up over 6,500 views, which is astonishing to me! You can find me @shadowedbeing if you want to watch cats, candle making, baking, and rants about random things!)

July seems like a wash overall, but I’m ready to turn things around now that it’s August! I’ve already started working on a major cross-stitch project for a friend’s wedding (wedding’s not until November, but I want to go ahead and get it done way ahead of time!). I’ve bought fabric for the Cats of Disney Stitch-A-Long that will be happening in September (I’ve got way more love for cats than dogs, oops.) And I’m officially setting this month as a no-spend month (which I’ve failed the past three no-spend months because I have no self control), because it’s my birthday month and I should be getting what I want in presents, so I’ve got no need to spend more money!

How did July go for you? I hope you read more books than I did (which honestly, isn’t a hard thing to do!) Let me know in the comments!

And as always, keep reading, and happy August!
